Have your say on the future strategy for West Northamptonshire - 22 February 2011

Residents have an opportunity to comment on West Northamptonshire’s Joint Core Strategy during a six week representation period starting Thursday 17 February. This is the final draft of the Joint Core Strategy, known as Pre-Submission, and is available for public comment before it is sent to the Government, who will decide if it will be adopted.

The Joint Core Strategy will be the long term strategic plan for the development of Daventry District, Northampton Borough and South Northamptonshire Councils’ administrative areas.

Councillor Chris Millar, Chairman of the West Northamptonshire Joint Strategic Planning Committee said: ‘This document will provide the West Northamptonshire area with the up to date planning framework it needs. More importantly it will enable the homes which are needed by local people to be built over the coming years, supported by the jobs and the infrastructure which the area needs to make it successful. This is the final chance for local people to have their say on the Strategy before we submit it to government. I would encourage people to take this opportunity to look at the document and lets us know if there is any new information that we should consider to improve the Strategy.’

Councillors set to consider future strategy for West Northamptonshire - 17 January 2011

The next stage of the Joint Core Strategy for West Northamptonshire will be decided by members of the West Northamptonshire Joint Strategic Planning Committee at their meeting on Monday 31 January.

The Joint Core Strategy will be the long term strategic plan for the development of Daventry District, Northampton Borough and South Northamptonshire Council’s administrative areas. The Committee will consider the latest version of the Strategy (known as the Pre-submission Draft) and decide whether it should be published for consultation prior to it being submitted to the Government.

The Pre-submission Draft Core Strategy will supersede the consultation document published in July 2009, known as the ‘Emergent Joint Core Strategy’.

The Strategy sets out a vision for the whole of the West Northamptonshire area up to 2026, including strategic policies for steering and shaping development. It identifies specific locations for strategic housing and employment, and changes to transport infrastructure and other supporting community facilities, as well as defining where development will be restricted.

If agreed, the Joint Core Strategy is likely to be made available for representations to give people the chance to have their say on the plan before it is finalised (provisional dates 17 February to 31 March 2011).

Commenting on the Strategy Councillor Millar said: ‘This document is of vital importance for the West Northamptonshire area which urgently needs an up to date planning framework as the local authorities existing local plans are dated. The Core Strategy will provide a robust plan to direct future development which is needed by local people to create sustainable locations, secure regeneration and inward investment in our urban areas, and to protect the whole area from inappropriate development proposals.’

The papers for the Joint Committee, including the full draft of the Joint Core Strategy, will be published on the 17 January 2011.
